Written sources say that the Iraqis first knew Samun in 1920 after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and during the British occupation, when an Armenian worker (named Simon) brought an oven with him and made Bread, and since that time it was named after its owner, but the word was distorted into Samun.

Iraqi samoon or stone samoon is a type of yeast bread that is consumed mainly in Iraq. It is baked in traditional stone ovens, like pizza. This bread is one of the most widespread bread in Iraq, along with khubz “bread “. It is usually served with a variety of foods such as hummus, kebab, and shawarma.

The shape of the samoon is characterized by a rhombus shape, and this shape is known throughout Iraq. © صمم في العراق Designed in Irak
