Shape — old Mosul bridge

The first bridge is known as the old bridge or the green bridge, it’s a bridge over the Tigris river which connect the right side with the left side of the Mosul city.

Its construction start at 1932 in the king Ghazi bin Faisal Reign and theopening at 1934, and it’s consider of the oldest bridge in the city.

The old Mosul bridge got destroy in the fight to free the city from ISIS in the 2016, then got repaired and opened in the 14/3/2018.

The ancient bridge has great importance to the residents of Mosul, exceeding its importance as a means of linking the two banks of the Tigris, and its importance highlights the many historical events that took place on it and were associated with its name.

The bridge was built through a structural system known as Truss Bridge Which is in the form of polygons that transfer loads to the support points, so the bridge’s shape is associated with repeated triangles, with two upper and lower lines, and this shape has been exploited in the distribution of night lighting recently, which enhanced its mental image among the people of Mosul, especially when its image is reflected on the water of the Tigris.
